Prepping for you Maternity Photo Shoot

Maternity sessions are a beautiful and fun way to highlight and remember your changing body. Whether you are expecting your first or fifth child, these photos will become a beautiful centerpiece in your home. Many soon-to-be moms have a lot of questions about preparing for their shoot, so read on for tips to a great shoot:

What to Wear

First and foremost, bring clothing that makes you feel comfortable! Tank tops and dresses made of stretchy, clingy fabrics are great for highlighting your bump. Unless you’re a big fan of patterns, stick to solid colors. Solids attract less attention, keeping the focus on your face and belly. Bring a range of outfits and we can pick out the ones that will look best together.

When choosing jewelry, less is more. Stick with the basics like your engagement ring, wedding band and classic pearl or diamond studs. Big, statement pieces are distracting and can create strange reflections.

Hair and Makeup

Think natural. Stick with a style you frequently wear and love or get pampered before your shoot and let my stylist do your hair and makeup for you! Including your significant other in the photos? Get his hair cut a week or two before the shoot for a clean look. Bring along a brush and makeup supplies for last minute touch ups.

Think Creative

Come to your shoot with an open mind. Pregnancy is a beautiful experience and your growing belly is amazing proof of the new life inside of you! We will take a variety of poses in a range of settings, so don’t be afraid to try something new. Angles are your friend and will highlight all your best features.

Don’t Forget Dad (And the Siblings)

Include dad and the kids in your photo shoot! Not sure what to dress everyone in? Keep your growing bump the highlight of the shoot by putting everyone in neutral, solid colors. Make sure they feel comfortable in their clothing too. Whether this means jeans and a t-shirt or khakis and a button-down shirt for dad, comfy clothing will go a long way in creating photos that look and feel natural.

Family shots create a precious memory and help your kids to feel included and excited about becoming big siblings. Check out my recent post, Maternity Photos with your Kids, for advice on getting your young children ready for the photo shoot.
